Crest architects the Procoll Workflow Manager web application and Procoll Engine
The Customer
Ceiba Solutions (formally Kauri Business Systems) is a NZ and US based company providing consulting, applications and services to the Process Manufacturing and Life Sciences industries.
As Kauri Business Systems at that time (2002), Crest was engaged to assist with the architecture and development of their first generation ‘process collaboration and workflow engine’, known as ‘Procoll’. Procoll was envisaged as a tool set to create ‘composite applications’ and provide executable workflow. Procoll provides the means to create tasks and manage task lists for people across multiple ERP applications in order to create end-to-end, executable business processes.

- Create a robust, scalable application platform suitable for internet and intranet delivery of web based forms and workflow.
- Provide a graphical workflow editor toolset for configuring Procoll applications in XML format that can be loaded into the Procoll Execution Engine.
- Provide strong application security that would satisfy strict regulatory environments for accountability and traceability of user actions and decisions.

- Design and co-development of the software platform in conjunction with Kauri staff: Workflow Editor (Windows), Workflow Manager (web), Workflow Deployment Manager (Windows), Workflow and Collaboration Engine (Windows service & SQL Server database).
- Design and development of the user security integral with all application – engine communications.
- Workflow Rules written in Visual Studio.NET for ease of access to full development & language facilities.
- Pilot site (Fonterra) application design, development and deployment.

Kauri have since rebranded as ‘Ceiba Solutions’ and now have a third generation composite application toolset for the Windows environment.
Crest has utilized the Procoll Workflow and Collaboration Engine for applications for our clients (see Fonterra and Coretexa case studies) and continues to act as a Procoll distributor for New Zealand.
